Kit Trail Series

Adidas Terrex being worn by runner at dusk

Winter arrives, it’s cold, dark, wet and windy and your motivation to go running suddenly starts to dip. You want to start your training, and you need to run, but digging deep to find that inner mental strength to get yourself outside, has almost become impossible. If you have ever entered a race and felt like “if I don’t go out training, I’m definitely not going to make it across the finish line!” Don’t fear, all you need is the right Adidas Terrex gear and a little advice. That’s why we have spoken to Threshold Trail Series Ambassador Andy Vanderburg, for his top 5 Adidas Terrex winter recommendations, which will assure to help prepare and motivate you during winter. I mean, who better to ask than someone who has trained and completed Race to the Stones…Four times!?

1. Gloves

Adidas trail running gloves

The moment I step out of the warmth of my home, the cold instantly launches itself at my hands! Crikey!!! Being a typical Aussie I still sometimes wear a vest while running in the winter, however my fingers freezer instantly! So make sure you have a pair or two on each run! These don’t have the be fancy ones that still allow the use of a smartphone, a £1 pair will do the job!

2. Reflective wear

One of the most important things for your winter kit without you ever seeing it. Most of us will run along a footpath by a road which can be dangerous and slippery particularly at night. Wear a top/leggings or even wear a hi-vis top that is reflective. As cars drive behind you, they will be able to see you from far away. This is a must for everyone, especially for the paths that aren’t very well lit up. Safety in winter must be a priority.

3. Head torch

Adidas terrex head torch for ultra runner for threshold trail series Following the above, ALWAYS wear a headtorch at night. From 5 pm onwards, the sun buggers off to another part of the world and unfortunately, we can’t chase it. So hit up your local sports shop and get a head torch. You can pick up a half-decent one for approximately £20 which is also part of the Trail Series kit requirement… hint hint. Most head torches use a USB cable to charge, so you can do this prior to your run or even in your car.

4. Extra running gear

Yes, extra running gear! Clothes take a lot longer to dry in the winter, the last thing you want is to not be able to run due to your gear still being wet. I always buy at least two extra shorts and vests so I don’t get stuck with anything to wear. Plus I would get into trouble if I didn’t wear any clothes while running!

5. New shoes

We all run through the summer clocking up some huge miles in preparation for the Trail Series and putting our shoes through a lot as well. If you want an excuse to retire a pair of shoes, Winter is here! New shoes will give you extra grip on the wet paths and also might get you a tad extra motivation to get outside on those cold nights.
