We are delighted to be welcoming Doorway as our Local Charity for Race to the Stones 2026.
Doorway is a homelessness charity based in Chippenham and covering the rural areas of North Wiltshire, providing non-judgemental open access daily drop-ins for those who find themselves homeless or vulnerably housed. Doorway provide necessities including hot meals, clothes, toiletries, mobile phones and data, tents and sleeping bags. The charity provides those in need with a postal address and gives supported referrals and signposting tailored to individuals.
“The effects of the cost of living crisis are still with us and people find themselves experiencing financial hardships for a multitude of reasons,” Doorway told us. “These can easily result in someone not having a safe place to call home and having to sleep on our streets. Our support is needed by a growing number of people and this demand shows no sign of slowing down. We are here to support those who need us for however long their journey to a more secure future might be.
“Doorway are excited to be the local charity for Race to the Stones 2026. This popular sporting event, an epic challenge following the historic Ridgeway and ending in Avebury, Wiltshire, gives us a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community and introduce our charity and our work to a new audience. The connection between the event and the distance some of our transient rough sleepers’ travel to that secure future is real and tangible.
“This marvellous event and the potential fundraising opportunity it gives us are vitally important to us. In times like these, when finances are tight, fundraising has become more difficult. To ensure we can continue to support those who need us most at such a desperate time in their lives we need to generate funds and increase our profile. It’s always nice to reach out to those who want to continue to support Doorway through a variety of ways.
“We are really looking forward to being at the finish and celebrating everyone, those who make it across the line and those who gave it their all and their amazing achievement, it’s going to be a really special moment.”
