Nothing is possible without our wonderful volunteers who are there every step of our participant’s journey.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and supportive team of volunteers to help us make memorable weekends. You can get involved in several ways, from supporting at one of our Pit Stops, marshalling on the route, or being at the finish line to celebrate and reward participants with a medal.
Want to get an insight into an Ultra Marathon event, without actually doing the miles? The volunteering spaces provide your perfect way in, as well as being a great way to meet new people. Apply by creating a quick account on our volunteer system, Liveforce. Once you’ve registered, you’ll find a number of different roles and shifts to choose from at both Race to the King and Race to the Stones.
Could your club, team or company take over one of our key locations? We have opportunities for your group to take on our Pit Stops/ marshal spots on the course. Make it your own with decor and entertainment to be the most memorable spot on our participant’s trail. If you’ve got at least four people, we’d love to hear from you. The best takeover spot volunteers will be rewarded at the prizegiving.
Be part of the team that supports our amazing participants, who push themselves to the limits in order to complete incredible challenges while raising oodles for charity.
That extra bit of cheering and encouragement from the side-lines could be exactly what they need to get them across the finish line, so be that person, be that support!
Work with a diverse collection of people from across the UK and make relationships that have a lasting impact on your life. Who knows, you could meet your future partner, or best friend or just have a conversation that changes the path that your life is on.
Most of all volunteering is fun! Enjoy the people around you and take in the beautiful surroundings. If you’re a people person with a passion for the great outdoors, you could be the perfect Threshold volunteer.
Volunteering will give you the chance to be a part of something bigger than yourself and put your own skills and knowledge to good use while also learning from others around you.
Being faced with challenges on a daily basis and having to deal with a mixture of personalities, you’ll be able to improve your teamwork, problem-solving, event management and people skills – the ideal candidate for future employers!
Whether you support for one day, two days or more, all volunteers are eligible for a free entry into our Threshold Trail events for you or a friend!
Join us for 1 day and you can redeem a 50km entry, join us for 2 days and you can redeem a 100km entry. You will have up to the end of the following season to use your place.
In addition, all volunteers can enjoy:
I come back, because I believe Threshold is the best. I so enjoy volunteering and when else will I be able to see such spectacular sunrises and sunsets over the amazing routes. Threshold people are also amazing, fun and experts in their field. I enjoy doing the whole weekend, working and camping over 2 nights and that’s how I get to see sunsets and sun rises. You also get to have a free ice cream cone as ‘staff’ at the end. It’s the little things that make a difference.

We had an absolute riot - the race we volunteered on was on a super hot day so Threshold put in extra water stops in between the official pitstops. Hilary and I were given one to run by ourselves out along the trail. Our stop became famous on Facebook! The interface with the competitors was stunning and we were fully aware of how valuable they found our smiles, energy, advice - and of course water!

Go for it! To anyone thinking of volunteering, everyone makes you so welcome and you get so much joy out of seeing other people beat their demons to complete their challenge and be a little part of their journey! Oh, and you learn how to put up gazebos and manage rachet straps (maybe, nearly!) and where else would you chop up 50 watermelons or pineapples!

The event volunteer roles do not require any previous experience, and we will provide you with all the information you need to fulfil your volunteer role on the day. All you need is a positive can-do attitude!
We offer a variety of roles which include being part of a pitstop team where participants can refuel ahead of the next leg of their journey, or being part of the finish team, where you will hand out medals and cheer our participants over the finish line.
Volunteer shifts are 8 hours long and timings will depend on which pit stop or main site you are based at. On the weekend events, you have the option to do a volunteer shift on the Saturday or Sunday, or both if you wish.
Yes within reason. We will aim to find a role and location that suits you. Please apply via the form and one of the team will be in touch to discuss further.
Unfortunately we aren’t able to accommodate any volunteers who are under 18 years old due to health and safety reasons.
Whatever your role on the event, you will be given all the necessary information to be able to carry this out to the best of your ability. You will be provided details of where you will need to be and when, and what you will need to bring with you. You will also have an experienced team manager with you on the day if you are unsure of anything.
Once you have signed up, we will email you to confirm your volunteering spot on the event. We will then be in touch with all volunteers approximately 4 weeks prior to the event to provide more details on where you need to be and when, and also your role on the event itself. We will then be in touch again in the week leading up to the event to notify you of any updates or changes, and to check you have everything you need.
On the event you will be provided with a black Threshold t-shirt to wear, as well as a hi-vis which must be worn at all times to be identifiable to participants as well as other crew and volunteers. As well as this, we recommend wearing comfortable footwear and always packing those waterproofs – you can never trust the British weather! A full kit list will be sent round to you in advance of the event.
Please ensure you read all the information sent round to you ahead of the event so you know where to go and what you’ll be doing. Of course if you have any further questions or are unsure about anything, you can always get in touch with us: firstname.lastname@example.org
After the event, you will be sent an invoice template. You will need to create an invoice and send this to us so that we can process the payment. If you are using public transport, please ensure you keep the receipts. If you are driving your own vehicle, mileage can be claimed back at 45p per mile up to a maximum of £100.
